TANDANG SORA @200: RECONSTRUCTING HER-STORY
The University of the Philippines’ College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD), College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) – History Department, University of the Philippines Center for Women’s Studies (UP CWS), and the Quezon City government under the leadership of Mayor Herbert M. Bautista and Vice Mayor Joy G. Belmonte invite everyone to an academic conference commemorating Tandang Sora’s birth bicentennial.
Date: March 1-3, 2012
Venue: Bulwagang Tandang Sora, Third Floor, College of Social Work and Community Development, UP Diliman.
Conference Fee: Php1,000.00 (covers the conference kit, lunch, snacks, free books and journals, and an educational tour); Php200.00 (undergraduate students’ fee exclusive of food and educational tour)
The plenary speakers are historian Prof Ma. Luisa Camagay, anthropologist Prof. Michael Tan and women’s studies scholars Dr. Judy Taguiwalo and Dr. Sylvia Estrada-Claudio. Topics include the image of women in Philippine history; Feminism and Nationalism; and Tandang Sora as Icon to Workers, the ”Small People”, Marginalized Groups, and Older Persons. Get to meet the descendants of Tandang Sora, view an exhibit of Tandang Sora memorabilia, and witness the unveiling of the historical marker on the Tandang Sora shrine in Banlat, Quezon City. Participation to the conference is duly endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education through a memorandum signed by the Chairperson (kindly refer to attachment: CHED Memorandum).
